Hugs

Little G is a hugger.

She has always been super affectionate, sprawling out on top of anyone who lies down on the floor. When someone is sick or crying, she leans her head against them to show empathy. She even brings J.D. his favorite blanket when he has fallen down, which is quite often.

J.D. is not really into hugs. When G tries to embrace him, he pushes her away and makes a terrible face as if he is disgusted by the whole idea. She keeps trying, but she has learned she has a better chance of getting her hug reciprocated from one of the big girls or mom or dad. Even our dog Button is better at receiving hugs from G.

So it came as a shock to me the other day when J.D. held his arms out, gave G a big smile, and hugged her around the middle. She, of course thrilled at this sign of affection, hugged right back. I almost teared up.

After my emotional interlude, I thought, ah man, I wish I had my camera! Needless to say, I was standing right next to it, and amazingly, they hugged so long, that I had time to get it out and capture these shots.

A first hug.

Priceless.

Then G decided she'd had enough, so she kind of gently pushed him away. But he was like, no that was great! So then he forced the hug, which in girl language is called "unwanted wrestling," which we all know doesn't work. I had to intervene.

Then I took this great shot of the two girls reading a book. Oh wait, it's the three girls. See that little red head peeking through?

This totally made my day. No, my week.

Yup, there she is! Told ya!

This is my first post on any form of social networking site. I had to try just to tell you the pictures are wonderful! How does this work? Of course it isn't email, but... oh, well. What you have been sharing is so - well - NORMAL. What fun the kids are! I'll be praying for strength for you and Danny.
Signed,
Long Lost Uncle

I think that James is just perfecting some sort of ploy with the whole hug thing. I mean he hugged Ellie on Sunday night! What could he be working on?!? Some type of strangle hold?
